Nature Reserve
Map Flowers At Work Wildlife History

Brief history

Newbourne Springs was used as a source of water for the surrounding district from the early 1930s until the early 1980s. Nowadays Anglian Water supplies much of the water used in this area from Alton Water and the old pumping station at Newbourne has been converted into a visitors centre for the nature reserve.

The reserve is owned by Anglian Water and managed for wildlife conservation with the Suffolk Wildlife Trust.

Almost all the conservation work on the reserve is carried out by voluntary wardens and work parties.  The wardens keep records of plant and animal species and look after the general welfare of the reserve.  If you would like to help, please contact the trust.
